Deenk Ethiopian Brand Consultant (Deenk Ethiopia) has signed a consultancy and event management Agreement with the Ethiopian Sport Federation in North America (ESFNA) to stage the inaugural Run in the USA during 2022 ESFNA annual festival in Maryland.
Event Detail
- Run date: Sat 9 July 2022, 5km starts at 7:00am
- Distances: 5km (3.6mil) adult and 1.3km (1mile) children
- Start time: 7:00am for 5km and 8:30am 1.6km races
- Registration fee: $35 for Adult and $25 for children
- Runners will get: race t-shirt before race and finishers medal when they finish the event
- Race message: Celebrating the Ethiopian Athletes Achievement
Registration
Registration fee is $35 for the 5km adult run and for $25 for the 1.6km children run.
There are two registration methods:

- Option 2: Limited tickets will be available at the 2022 ESFNA opening day event on July 3rd at Capital One Field at Maryland Stadium.
We advise participants to register online and secure their place to take part in the inaugural running event.
Race Course
5km (3.1miles) Adult Race
The 5km Adult race starts at 7:00am on Stadium Dr at the University of Maryland.
Starting on Stadium Dr runs towards and make a left at Paint Branch Dr and runs towards and make a left at Terrapin Trail and stays on Terrapin Trail until XFINITY Center and joins the trail path and runs around XFINITY Center and runs along Parking lot 9b and 9c and joins Regents Dr and make a left at Paint Branch Dr and runs back to the race start on Stadium Dr and make left to run around the stadium and runs on Fieldhouse Dr for 150m before making a left to finish inside the Stadium.
1.6km (1mile) Children Race
The 1 mile children race starts at 8:30am on the turf fields by Stadium Dr
It starts on turf fields and runs towards Stadium Drive and runs towards and make a right at Farm Dr and runs towards and make a left at Hagerstown Ln and turn to the right at Stadium Dr to run around the stadium and finishes inside the Maryland Stadium like the 5km adult race.

Deenk is partnering with two prominent personalities to deliver the inaugural Run in the USA:
- Athlete Assefa Mezgebu renowned Ethiopian Olympic medalist who is well known for the role he played at the 2000 Sydney Olympics 10,000m doing the team work with Haile which was very important for Haile’s neck to neck victory with Paul Tergat. Assefa finished the race third taking the bronze medal making Ethiopia’s medal count on the same event to two. Currently coaching long distance Ethiopian athletes. Assefa has done his degree in Sport Management from the University of South Carolina
- Tebabu Assefa works in media to promote African culture, and his use of stories to excite markets for African products has resulted in a new model, which creates international market linkages for higher-value and profit-sharing with farmers to foster and advance economic and social development.
